Upper limb exercise with physical and virtual robots: Visual sensitivity affects task performance

Abstract We investigated the influence of visual sensitivity on performance an imitation task with robot R1 in its virtual and physical forms. Virtual embodiments offer different sensory experience to users. As all individuals respond differently their environment, may play a role interaction robot. Investigating how can interactions appears be helpful tool evaluate design such interactions. Here we asked 16 participants perform task, under conditions full occluded visibility, report strategy they used this task. them complete Sensory Perception Quotient questionnaire. vision predicted participants’ imitating robot’s upper limb movements. From self-report questionnaire, observed that relied more cues than these results, propose embodiment enables user invest lower cognitive effort when performing over embodiment. The results presented here are encouraging following line research is suitable improve effects robots for applications healthy clinical settings.
